A lot has happened to me since I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. I have learned a lot. I don't see my disabilities as disabilities, I see them as abilities. If I didn't have what I have then I wouldn't be the person I am now. My mom asked me once if in my dreams if I don't have Asperger's. My answer was that I didn't know because I don't know what it is like to not have Asperger's. I don't like it when people act differently around me when they find out about me. I see my Asperger's as characteristics of me.
Love it! You are an amazing person, Amie. I hope you never forget that. I think this blog is going to be great! ~ Sara
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with the way you look at yourself. I also agree with that AS is so much a part of you that it is a characteristic rather than a disability. I do not understand why people treat others differently when they find out they have a disability or anything that they deam "out of the ordinary". People are people and they have feelings just like everyone else and want to be treated like everyone else. -Kristin
